Noll moves up board at GSGA tournament

Dalton’s David Noll Jr. shot a 3-over-par 73 in Saturday’s third round of the Georgia Amateur Championship, good enough to help him climb up the scoreboard a bit entering the final day of the Georgia State Golf Association event.

Noll’s round on the 6,727-yard layout at Idle Hour Club in Macon moved him up from a tie for 68th to a tie for 54th. He shares the spot with five others going into the fourth round of the 72-hole tournament.

Noll is the only local player remaining in the tournament after Chatsworth’s Tyler Mitchell and Cohutta’s Nick Ray missed the cut on Friday.

With 54 holes behind him, Bonaire’s Stan Gann Jr. holds a three-stroke lead after shooting a 66 on Saturday that put him at 6-under 204 for the tournament. Kelby Burton of Evans is second, a stroke ahead of Suwanee’s Matt Mirzejewski, Columbus’ Robert Mize and Eatonton’s Trey Rule.
