Dalton State pulls boards in easy win vs. Allen University

Dominating the boards brought about a big first-half lead and a 25-point win on the road for Dalton State College’s men’s basketball team. The Roadrunners outrebounded Allen University 53-31 to take a 95-70 victory Saturday in Columbia, S.C.

Tyrel Edwards made 4 of 6 3-pointers, finishing with a game-high 21 points to lead Dalton State, while Demetrice Jacobs had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Five different players — Jacobs, Edwards, Ladaris Green, Anthony Hilliard and Preston Earle — had six or more rebounds for the Roadrunners. Earle also added 13 points and Hilliard scored 10.

“We came with good defensive intensity and were able to take them out of their game,” Dalton State coach Tony Ingle said in a release from the school. “Ladaris and DJ (Jacobs) hitting the boards was exactly what we needed to not only maintain our lead but to create a wider margin. We struggled early in the transition offense, but Tyrel’s hot hand really opened the game up for us and we never really looked back.”

Dalton State, which led 48-30 at halftime, returns to competition Tuesday with a 7 p.m. tipoff at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga.
