Sears leads Roadrunners to win No. 21

Dalton State College’s mens basketball team may not be playing for any part of a national tournament, but that hasn’t stopped the team from continuing its dominant return to the court.

Senior guard Ricky Sears scored 21 points and four other players reached double figures as the Roarunners improved to 21-2 with a 95-71 win over state rivals Reinhardt University at the Brown Athletic Center in Waleska. Dalton State led by as many as 21 points in the first half, and Reinhardt never got closer than 16 points in the second half.

The Roadrunners were especially hot from behind the 3-point line, hitting 11 of 24. Sears was deadly, hitting all four of his 3-point attempts. Reinhardt hit just 5 of 24 from beyond the arc. Dalton State shot 46.3 percent from the field, while the Eagles managed just 37.1 percent.

Sears was followed in scoring by Demetrice Jacobs and Preston Earle, who each scored 13, and 12 points apiece from Ladaris Green and Erich Allen. Green also had nine rebounds and three blocks on the inside, and Sean Tate had five assists. The Roadrunners also helped their own cause in the second half by hitting 21 of 26 free-throw attempts.

Reinhardt (11-10) led 9-3 early in the game, but the Roadrunners went on a 10-0 run and never trailed after that. Quinton Wood led the Eagles with a game-high 27 points.
