DSC tennis teams go 3-1 during weekend

Dalton State College’s tennis teams split a pair of matches Sunday in a road trip to Brevard College from North Carolina, as the men won 7-2 and the women lost 5-4.

Dalton State (6-2) won two of the three men’s doubles matches as Adam Hornby and Nikolay Nikiforov won 8-2 in the No. 1 match. Juan Pablo Arguello and Lucas de Souza, No. 2, won 8-0. Nikiforov won 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles. Hornby won 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles. Souza won 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles. Arguello won 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles. Hadyn Fava won 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 in the last singles match.

In the women’s match, Dalton State (4-2) won two of three doubles contests. No. 2 Chelsea Powell and Laura Winter won 8-6, and No. 3 Diana Narino and Daniela Sanchez won 8-1.

In singles action, No. 4 Sanchez won 6-3, 6-2 and No. 6 Maria Alejandra Bejarano won 6-3, 3-3.

On Friday, Dalton State’s two teams each won 9-0 against Point University in Valley, Ala.

Hornby and Nikiforov won 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles match for the men, and Arguello and Souza won 8-6 in No. 2 while David Draghiceanu and Fava won 8-4 in No. 3. In singles, No. 1 Nikiforov won 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, No. 2 Hornby won 6-4, 6-0, No. 3 Draghiceanu won 6-3, 6-2, No. 4 Souza won 8-2, No. 5 Arguello won 8-6 and No. 6 Fava won 8-4.

Powell and Winter won 8-2 in the women’s No. 1 doubles contest for Dalton State. Narino and Sanchez won 8-0 in No. 2 and Bejerano teamed with Lindsay McCutchen to win 8-0 in the No. 3 match.

In singles, No. 1 Winter won 6-0, 6-0, No. 2 Powell won 6-0, 6-0, No. 3 Narino won 6-2, 6-1, No. 4 Sanchez won 6-1, 6-1, No. 5 Bejarano won 8-0 and No. 6 McCutchen won 8-0.
