Close one on diamond goes way of the Dogs

Brandon Stephens’ two-out single brought home the only run of Georgia’s 1-0 win against Georgia Tech on Tuesday at Foley Field in Athens.

Robert Tyler, a freshman, had a great outing for the Bulldogs (6-6), allowing just hits through eight innings as the team’s starting pitcher, according to statistics at Georgia’s athletic website, georgiadogs.com. Jared Cheek earned the win after pitching the ninth inning.

Alex Cruz pitched five innings and allowed five hits for Georgia Tech (7-5) while Jonathan Roberts relieved for three scoreless innings and Tanner Shelton took the loss as the Yellow Jackets’ pitcher to start the ninth.
