Rebounds boost Lady Pioneers in victory against Valley Point

— North Whitfield’s eighth-grade girls basketball team dominated on the glass in a 26-25 win over visiting Valley Point on Monday.

Ashley Cooper’s nine-point effort paced the Lady Pioneers, who outrebounded the Lady Green Waves 32-11.

Valley Point’s individual statistics were not reported by The Daily Citizen’s deadline.

Dalton boys 45, Bagley 32: The Cougars (8-4) were led by Nasir Love’s 12-point performance in Monday’s win over the host Braves, while Matthew Howell added eight points.

Bagley (2-3) was led by Blake Davis’ 12 points, and Brody Frazier finished with eight.

Dalton girls 36, Bagley 15: Katelyn Crumbley led Bagley (3-2) with seven points, but it wasn’t enough against the Lady Cougars.

Dalton’s individual results were not reported to The Daily Citizen.

Christian Heritage boys 47, Gilmer 44: Devin Smith had 18 points to lead the Lions as they scored a season-opening win Saturday in Ellijay.

Tate Tipton added 10 points and Lucas Grant chipped in eight for Christian Heritage.

New Hope girls 47, Cleveland (Tenn.) 43: Three Lady Kodiaks scored in double figures and Bria Clemmons just missed a double-double — she finished with nine points and as many rebounds — as New Hope won Monday at home.

Kylee Ward had a team-best 13 points, while Aubrey Young added 11 and Gabby Wright finished with 10.



7th basketball

Dalton girls 23, Bagley 21: In a game tied 19-19 at the end of the third quarter, Dalton made two buckets and held Bagley to one in the fourth to get the win on Monday.

Savannah Satterfield led Bagley (3-2) with 12 points.

Dalton boys 47, Bagley 35: Harrison Norman led all scorers with 22 points and Zachary Gentry added 13 points to lead the Cougars to Monday’s road win.

Jaden Baggett finished with 10 points to lead Bagley (3-2), while Josh Cain and Waylyn James each scored eight points.

North Whitfield girls 16, Valley Point 12: The Lady Pioneers, who won for the second time this season, were led by a 10-point performance from Kelsey Bates, while Rachel Ward had six steals on defense in Monday’s victory.

Bates had nine points to lead North Whitfield to a 26-10 win over Valley Point on Dec. 3.
