— Dalton State College’s women’s tennis team lost 8-1 to Brenau University on Tuesday in Gainesville.

The lone court victory for the Roadrunners (6-3) came at No. 2 doubles as Chelsea Powell and Laura Winter defeated Perdona Medina and Valeria Savina 8-5 in pro-set play. Singles play was best-of-three matches, but Dalton State was swept in all six.

Brenau (9-5) is ranked seventh in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics poll.

“This gives us a good indication of where we are and where we need to be,” Michel Bates, Dalton State’s director of tennis, said in a release from the college.

Dalton State returns to competition Friday, hosting Atlanta’s Agnes Scott College at 4 p.m. at Lakeshore Park in Dalton.
