Prep roundup: Dalton tennis secures top seed


The Cats (11-3, 5-0) received singles wins from No. 1 Jacob Johnson, 6-2, 6-4, and No. 2 Shazman Ali, 6-0, 6-1, along with doubles wins from No. 1 Will Alderman and Ryan Harper, 6-0, 6-0, and No. 2 Thomas DeLay and Nicholas Nelson, 6-1, 6-0.

Cody Bourff won 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for Northwest (5-2, 1-1).

“We are still going to have to get better,” Hilley said of his boys. “We lost to River Ridge this past weekend, and it was a wake-up call. We are inconsistent right now. If we ever all play well at the same time, we have a chance to be a good team.”

Murray County girls 4, Pepperell 1: Winning singles matches for the host Lady Indians (8-1) were No. 1 Greta Lazzarotto, 6-0, 6-2, No. 2 Gabbie Bordelon, 6-1, 6-1, and No. 3 Allison Jones, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, No. 1 Chloe Brown and Kailey Webb won 6-2, 6-3.

Pepperell boys 5, Murray County 0: The Indians fell to 1-8 overall with the home loss.

Gordon Central girls 3, North Murray 2: The host Lady Mountaineers (0-9, 0-9 Region 5-3A) got a singles win from No. 1 Harmony Jones, 6-1, 6-2, and a doubles win from No. 2 Lyrich Burgess and Chelsea Gray, 7-5, 6-1.

North Murray boys 3, Gordon Central 2: Singles winners for the host Mountaineers (4-5, 4-5 Region 5-3A) were No. 2 Hunter Kvistad, 6-0, 6-0, and No. 3 Dylan Garland, 6-1, 6-2. In doubles, the No. 2 team of Uriel Carrillo and Dylen Nix won by forfeit.

LaFayette girls 5, Southeast Whitfield 0: The Lady Raiders fell to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in Sub-region 7B-4A with the road loss.

LaFayette boys 4, Southeast 1: Jorge Ruedas’ 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles was the lone victory for visiting Southeast (1-5, 1-3 Sub-region 7B-4A).


• Hannah Dempsey shot a 61 as Southeast’s lone player in a girls match at Indian Trace Golf Course that included Murray County and North Murray. Murray County and North Murray did not report scores by The Daily Citizen’s deadline.

• Results from a scheduled match for Coahulla Creek against Gordon Central at Nob North Golf Course in Varnell were not reported by The Daily Citizen’s deadline.
