Middle School Roundup: Dalton at home on the courts

— The Dalton Middle School girls tennis program improved to 3-0 on the year with a sweep of a pair of matches this week.

On Wednesday, the Lady Cougars won 5-4 over Silverdale Baptist Academy, getting singles wins from Caroline Mathis (8-5) and Caroline Coleman (8-4). Doubles winners were Anna Crane and Abby Dyer (8-1) and the team of Amy Sahoo and Sophia Shepherd, who had to play twice and came away with 8-0 and 8-5 victories.

In Thursday’s 6-3 win over Heritage, Dalton took singles wins by Olivia Tidwell (8-1), Alice Adams (8-5), Vanessa Vargas (8-1), Amy Sahoo (8-4) and Coleman (8-3). Doubles team Crane and Dyer won in a tiebreaker.

On Wednesday, the Dalton boys tennis team took a 6-2 victory over Silverdale Baptist. Bennett Wills, Charlie Alderman, Marshall Phillips and Alex Reisz all had singles wins, while the teams of Sam Goetze and Wyatt Cushman as well as the team of Charlie Alderman and Hunter Jones won in doubles action.

In Thursday’s 5-4 win over Heritage, singles winners include Bennett Wills, Sam Goetze, Henry Stevenson and Hunter Jones. Tanner Thomas and Ethan Ware won a doubles mach to clinch the victory. No individual game scores were provided to The Daily Citizen for either match.  



Baseball

Dalton 10, Gladden 0: Vinny Vega and Brock Nelson combined for a no-hitter with Vega throwing three perfect innings with six strikeouts in the run-rule shortened victory on Thursday.

Nelson and Maddux Houghton led the way for the Cougars (4-0) at the plate as each went 2 for 3 with a doubles. Cole Shelton had a double, walked twice and scored three runs, while E.J. Ramos and Vega each added a double.  

Dalton Middle defeated Gladden Middle Thursday at Dalton by a score of 10-0.



Soccer

• Bagley boys 3, Gladden 1:
Ernesto Rodriguez, Jason Trejo and Kevin Garcia each scored goals to lead the Braves past the rival Warriors on Thursday. Ulises Gochez led the defense with multiple saves. Gladden’s scorer was not reported.

Veronica Miranda scored the game-winning goal for Bagley’s girls in a win over Gladden on Thursday, but the final score was not reported. Strong defensive play from Mackenzie Walston, Monica Rea, BiQui Ramirez, Lauren Wells and Ashley Walston was noted for Bagley.
