— Wet weather washed out area varsity sports competitions on Monday, and it’s been wet enough already this spring sports season that some non-league events are now being canceled rather than postponed for a makeup date.

In baseball, Dalton at North Murray and Murray County at Ridgeland were postponed. It is not known if Christian Heritage’s scheduled home game against Trion was played. Lions coach Noah Stokes did not return messages left by The Daily Citizen.

Dalton at North Murray will be made up at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a junior varsity game following the varsity game. Indians coach Jeff Lanning said their game would be made up, but no date has been set.

In golf, Southeast Whitfield’s boys and girls were scheduled to face Murray County at Spring Lakes in Chatsworth. Those matches will be made up at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

In soccer, Southeast Whitfield’s boys and girls matches at Heritage-Catoosa, which were already postponed once because of inclement weather, were called off again. The Sub-region 7B-4A matches will be made up, but a date has not been set.

In tennis, the following boys and girls matches were postponed: Christian Heritage at Mount Paran Christian and North Murray at Ringgold. Christian Heritage will make up its matches at 4 p.m. on March 28; North Murray’s matches — Region 5-3A competitions — will be made up, but a date has not been set. Southeast’s boys and girls matches at Coahulla Creek, non-region competitions, were canceled.

When local prep athletic events are canceled, postponed or rescheduled for any reason, coaches are urged to notify the paper in advance of the originally scheduled time by calling (706) 272-7742, 272-7732 or 272-7734. Notifications may also be sent to sports@daltoncitizen.com.
