Georgia Junior Championship coming to Farm

(Continued)

MARIETTA — Senior events

The GSGA schedule features four events for senior men, including the 27th annual Georgia Senior Championship (for ages 55 and older). Scheduled for Aug. 28 to 30, this competition returns to The Landings Club in Savannah for the fifth time. The field will play the Deer Creek course, which also hosted in 2002.

The sixth annual Georgia Super Senior Championship (for ages 65 and older) takes place April 2 and 3 at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta. In just its second year, the Georgia Senior Match Play Championship will head to White Columns Country Club in Alpharetta, May 8 to 11.

The GSGA’s final competition of the season, the Georgia Senior Four-Ball Championship, will return to the Country Club of Columbus and Green Island Country Club in Columbus, Nov. 13 to 15. This competition will feature a new format in 2013, adding a super senior flight (for ages 65 and older) of 12 teams. The championship flight will be reduced to 36 teams based on handicap index.

Women’s events

The Georgia Senior Women’s Match Play Championship (for ages 50 and older) returns to the schedule in 2013 and is set for May 20-22 at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton.

For the first time in event history, the 16th annual Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship will take place at a new site in 2013, this time at The Legends at Chateau Elan in Braselton, June 2 to 5.

The 32nd annual Georgia Top 60 Women’s Classic is scheduled for June 26 and 27 at Green Island Country Club in Columbus.  The GSGA Senior Women’s Championship, in its 16th year, will be played at the King & Prince Golf Course in St. Simons Island, Aug. 26 and 27.

The final women’s event of the year, the 28th annual Georgia Women’s Team Championship, will take place at the Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris, Sept. 25 and 26.

Both The Legends at Chateau Elan and Brasstown Valley Resort will be hosting a GSGA-sanctioned competition for the first time in 2013.

“We’ve made format changes in a couple of GSGA competitions in hopes of attracting greater participation,” Williams said. “We’ve added a super senior flight for ages 65 and older to our Senior Four-Ball Championship, which will consist of 12 teams that will play from a different set of tees than the championship flight. Also, the first round of the Women’s Team Championship will be four-ball net scoring, while the second round remains a scramble format.”

And he likes to play in the dirt.
