Georgia Junior Championship coming to Farm

MARIETTA — Junior events

The 48th annual Georgia Junior Championship and the 34th annual Georgia Girls’ Championship will both be held June 17 to 19 at two of Georgia’s legendary championship courses. The juniors will play at The Farm in Rocky Face and the girls at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek.

The Junior Sectional Challenge Match, scheduled for July 22 and 23 at The Georgia Club in Statham, is the culmination of a statewide summer series of one-day events for junior golfers of all skill levels.

Interstate matches

Georgia’s top junior golfers will travel across the border to take on the top juniors from the Palmetto State for the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match, scheduled for July 26 and 27 at Forest Lake Club in Columbia, S.C.

The top Georgia girls will also cross the border for the Georgia-South Carolina Girls’ Junior Challenge Match, Aug. 3 and 4, at a site to be determined.

The Southeastern Challenge Match resumes for the 14th time in 2013, as teams from Georgia, Florida and Alabama will compete at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee in Eatonton, Oct. 19 and 20.  Each team consists of 12 players — eight mid-amateurs and four seniors chosen by each state’s golf association.

USGA qualifiers

In 2013, Georgia will conduct 17 qualifiers for the USGA’s 13 annual national championships.

The state will host both stages of qualifying for the U.S. Open. Local Open qualifying takes place May 13 at Marietta Country Club in Kennesaw and May 14 at Atlanta National Golf Club in Alpharetta.

The U.S. Open Sectional qualifier is scheduled for June 3 at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground.

The Sectional qualifier for the U.S. Women’s Open is set for May 13 at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta.
