Prep roundup: Bruins win with eyes on sub-region slate



Dalton boys 5, Calhoun 0: The Cats improved to 4-0, picking up the road victory with singles wins from No. 1 Jacob Johnson, 6-1, 6-1, No. 2 Nathan Bryant, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, and No. 3 Shazman Ali, 7-5, 6-4, plus doubles wins from No. 1 B.J. Rowland and Thomas Delay, 7-5, 6-4, and No. 2 P.K. Bhatter and Will Alderman 7-6, 6-2.

Dalton girls 3, Calhoun 2: The Lady Cats (4-0) topped Calhoun for the first time in more than five years by sweeping singles.

Dalton’s winners were No. 1 Courtney Morton, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, No. 2 Kara Pendley, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, and No. 3 Anna Grace Wilson, 6-4, 6-4.

LaFayette boys 3, Southeast 2: Winners for the Raiders (0-2, 0-2 Sub-region 7B-4A) were No. 1 Darshan Patel, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2, and No. 1 Fernando Beccera and Alexis Becerra, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

LaFayette girls 5, Southeast 0: The Lady Raiders fell to 0-2 overall and in Sub-region 7B-4A.


• In late results from Thursday, North Murray topped Southeast in boys and girls nine-hole matches at Indian Trace in Chatsworth.

The Mountaineers shot a 193 for a 10-stroke victory against the Raiders, with Colby Hipp’s 4-over-par 40 good for medalist honors. Adrian Patino (46), Luke Bearden (52) and Jacob Sexton (55) also scored for North Murray, while the Raiders’ counting rounds came from Cameron Maynard (49), Andrew Head (50), Eric Sosebee (50) and Jackie Stephens (54).

The Lady Mountaineers edged Southeast 162-163, with Lady Raiders senior Megan Collins’ 43 easily claiming medalist honors.

North Murray’s counting rounds came from Jocelyn Blair (49), Tilly Hughes (55) and Dara Dople (58). Also scoring for Southeast were Bethany Reddix (58) and Tori Bailey (62).
