— Despite not having a chance to win a Georgia High School Water Polo Association championship at the Cummings Aquatic Center, Dalton does have a chance to finish better this year than in last year’s inaugural season.

With a 20-1 loss Saturday afternoon to St. Pius X’s A team, Dalton is no longer in the championship bracket and will play two games today in the consolation bracket. Matt Heard scored Dalton’s only goal.

In two earlier matches on Saturday, 10th-seeded Dalton won 15-5 against St. Pius X’s B team and 10-6 over Lakeside-Dekalb’s A team. Taylor Mathis scored 11 goals in the two games, and Heard added six scores while Luis Rosales scored five times. Goalkeeper Josh Satterfield made 22 saves in the two games.

Last season, Dalton finished sixth in the state tournament.

Dalton will play at 10 a.m. With a win, the team will play again at 2 p.m. in the fifth-place game. With a loss in the morning, Dalton will play in the seventh-place game at 2 p.m.
