Prep roundup: Dalton girls energetic as basketball season starts


Swimming and diving

• Dalton swept Heritage-Catoosa and Ringgold in a tri-meet at home.

The Dalton boys won with 188 points, followed by Ringgold’s 40 and Heritage’s 28. The Lady Cats won with 164 points to Heritage’s 28 and Ringgold’s 14.

Dalton’s boys winners were: Ethan Young, Pierson Scarborough, Taylor Mathis and Taylor Dale in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 43.81 seconds; Scarborough (200 freestyle, 1:57.01; 100 breaststroke, 1:03.87); Dale (200 individual medley, 2:03.28; 100 freestyle, 51.95); Mathis (50 freestyle, 22.83); Young (100 butterfly, 54.45; 100 backstroke, 55.68); Young, Michael O’Brien, Sam Reeves and Mathis (200 freestyle relay, 1:36.16); and Scarborough, Austin McCanless, Alen Trejo and Dale (400 freestyle relay, 3:58.66).

Dalton’s girls winners were: Christian Herald, Amy Gallardo, Oli Valdez and Belinda Patterson (200 medley relay, 2:41.50); Romina Mendoza (200 freestyle; 2:17.26); Susan Meinders (diving, 180.80); Nineve Arriola (100 fly, 1:09.89; 100 backstroke, 1:07.68); Madison Miller (100 freestyle, 1:08.36); Valdez (500 freestyle, 6:27.08); Miller, Mendoza, Emilie Smith and Arriola (200 freestyle relay, 2:00.49; 400 freestyle relay, 4:26.82).

• Northwest Whitfield’s girls won a tri-meet against Creekview and Adairsville while the Bruins narrowly missed out on a win.

The Lady Bruins won with 493 points, followed by Creekview’s 455 and Adairsville’s 428. Adairsville’s boys won with 477, with Northwest at 463 and Creekview at 407.

Macie Maret won the 200 freestyle in 2:25.19 and the 100 butterfly in 1:13.75 as the Lady Bruins’ lone winner.

For the Northwest boys, Makray Kyer, Cody Hufstetler, Matthew Pipkin and Chandler Rickett won the 200 medley in 1:58.71. Other winners were Pipkin (50 freestyle, 24.25; 100 freestyle, 55.61); Jake Rogers (500 freestyle, 6:26.80); and Triston Smith, Hufstetler, Rickett and Pipkin (200 freestyle relay, 1:44.30).

    Tori Owens, of Chatsworth finished 11-over-par Monday in the Junior Sectional Challenge Match at The Landings Club-Marshwood and Magnolia in Savannah for third place in the girls 12-13-year-old 9-hole division. She joined Landon Painter and Hardin Chambless on the Northwest team.
