Area middle school roundup: Dalton golfers rolling along

Dalton Middle School’s boys and girls golf teams remained unbeaten for the season after competition this week at Dalton Golf and Country Club and LaFayette Golf Club.

The Cougars (6-0) topped host LaFayette and Alabama’s Scottsboro in a nine-hole match on Tuesday, with sixth-grader Carter Pendley’s 38 earning medalist honors and leading the way as Dalton shot a 177.

LaFayette finished one stroke behind the Cougars, but well ahead of Scottsboro’s 203.

Also scoring for Dalton’s boys were Davis Kirk (44), Jackson Quarles (47) and Davis Smith (48).

Pendley was also the match medalist on Monday as Dalton shot a 157 to beat Chattanooga private schools McCallie (167) and Baylor (183) — which included some local residents among their competitors — at Dalton Golf and Country Club.

Also scoring for Dalton were Matthew Cleary and Kirk, who each shot a 39, and Addison Lambert (42).

Scoring for McCallie were Ethan Dendy (40), Jake Allstun (41), Steven Bernstein (43) and Jesse Felker (43). Scoring for Baylor were Sam Marshall (42), Shaan Desai (43), Sidon Kwon (45) and Connor Troxell (53).

The Lady Cougars (5-0) also won on Monday, shooting a 97 to beat LaFayette (109) and Scottsboro (122). Katelyn Skiffen’s 47 was good for medalist honors, while McCall Maret (50) also scored for Dalton.

Dalton’s girls accepted a forfeit on Tuesday, when Baylor’s team was unable to complete the match due to illness. Skiffen (48) and Katy Buckner (55) finished their rounds and would have had the counting scores for the Lady Cougars.
