— The Dalton boys water polo team lost both its games Saturday to begin the Georgia High School Water Polo Association 2013 season.

Dalton lost the first game 11-9 to North Springs. Matt Heard scored six goals for Dalton, Taylor Mathis added two and Luis Rosales chipped in one. Mathis won all four sprints to gain possession of the ball at the beginning of each quarter. Goalkeeper Josh Satterfield had nine blocks.

In the second game, versus Southern Crescent, Dalton lost 14-7. Mathis won one sprint, and Satterfield made 11 blocks. Pepe Gardea also played some in goal and made four blocks.

Heard scored five times, while Mathis and Rosales each scored once.

Dalton finished sixth in the GHSWPA state tournament last year, the club’s inaugural season.

Dalton’s girls team, set to begin its inaugural season, was scheduled to play a team labeled “Team 4,” but Dalton coach Charles Todd said the opposing squad canceled its season.

The girls play three games today starting at 10 a.m., and the boys play twice starting at 11 a.m. All games will be at Mountain View Aquatics Center in Marietta.
