Area prep roundup: Gribble leads Lady Indians to diamond win

— Whitney Gribble was the winning pitcher and drove in a pair of runs as Murray County High School’s softball team won 7-5 at Armuchee in a Region 7-2A matchup on Wednesday.

Gribble allowed just one earned run in the complete-game victory. She gave up three hits, walked one and struck out three.

Cassidy Callahan was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for the Lady Indians (7-3, 1-2 Region 7-2A), while Shea Pendley homered and drove in a pair of runs and Aubrie Osborne had a hit, drove in a run and scored.

The game, which was originally scheduled to be played in Chatsworth, was moved to Armuchee because of wet conditions on Murray County’s field. Murray County was originally scheduled to travel to Dade County in Region 7-2A action today but will instead host the Lady Wolverines at 5:30 p.m.

• North Murray’s Region 5-3A matchup at Gordon Central, which was postponed for the second straight day, is now slated for 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

• Northwest Whitfield’s junior varsity team was swept in a doubleheader at Calhoun, falling 3-0 and 4-1 in the pair of six-inning games.

Madison Gowin pitched a complete game for the Lady Bruins (1-2) in the opener, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out two.

In the second game, Kayla Bearden worked the first four innings, allowing all four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one. Robin Bryant worked the final inning for North-west, walking one but giving up no hits.


• In late results from Tuesday, Murray County was swept in a pair of varsity matches at Sonoraville, losing 25-6, 25-6 to the host Lady Phoenix and 25-9, 25-15 to Southeast Whitfield.

Heidy Cabral and Alex Johnson each had 13 assists on the night to lead the Lady Indians (0-10). Southeast’s statistics were reported in Wednesday’s area prep roundup.
