From Staff Reports

— Christian Heritage’s middle school softball team beat Tennessee’s Lookout Valley 8-3 this past Thursday at Heritage Point Park in Dalton, completing an undefeated season and winning the Independent School Conference tournament championship.

Erin Leonard led the Lady Lions (14-0) from inside the circle as she pitched for the complete-game victory, while Halle Poteet, Hailey Jones, Hannah Heath and Hadley Young combined for six hits and five RBIs and Kayleigh Fitzgerald and Adain Coulter each chipped in two hits.

Eastbrook swept the North Georgia Middle School Athletic League boys and girls championships this past Thursday at Coahulla Creek High School. The Mustangs beat Bagley 2-0, while team captain Jennifer Flores leading the Lady Mustangs as they won a penalty-kick shootout with North Whitfield, 4-3, after the match was tied 1-1 following regulation play and overtime.

During regulation play, Flores’ goal gave the Lady Mustangs a 1-0 lead, but North Whitfield scored late in the match to force overtime, during which neither team scored. During the shootout, Tania Lopez, Ester Panaigua and Betsy Santos converted — North Whitfield also made three penalty kicks, but Lady Mustangs keeper Ally Sanchez stopped a pair of attempts — to set up Flores’ winning penalty kick. It was Eastbrook’s second straight championship.

Eastbrook coaches singled out the defensive play of Briani Camacho and Jazmin Ortiz and noted that Sanchez finished the year with only one goal allowed.

In the boys match, Noe Rodriguez and Jorge Dominguez scored second-half goals — they were assisted by Axel Arrendondo and Saul Lerma — while Allen Camacho was in goal to earn the shutout as the Mustangs claimed their seventh league championship in eight years and second in a row.

Coaches singled out the defensive play of Ricky Alvarez, Uli Dominguez, Lionel Lugo, Lisandro Nunez, Juan Carlos Ramire and Ivan Santos Santos.

North Whitfield and Bagley did not report statistics from the matches.
