Dalton State College golfers Tobias Ebner and Tyler Mitchell each shot 2-under-par rounds of 70, and the Roadrunners were seven shots out of the lead after the opening day of the Bash at the Beach Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Ebner and Mitchell were part of a group of six golfers — including former Dalton High School standout and current Coastal Georgia player Chase Miller — tied for second, three strokes behind tournament leader Matt Morin of Johnson & Wales University. The two-day tournament is being played on the 6,858-yard, par-72 LPGA International Course.
Ebner had the best nine holes of the day, shooting a 5-under 31 on the front nine of the course. However, he finished with a 3-over 39 on the back. Mitchell played the final nine 2-under to account for his 70.
Miller and teammate Allan Bradford both had 70s, and Coastal Georgia leads by a stroke over South Carolina-Beaufort in the team standings after shooting a 283. Dalton State is fifth at 290.
In addition to Ebner and Mitchell’s rounds, other scoring rounds for the Roadrunners came from Levi Nix (74) and Chase Jones and Anthony D’Angelo, who each shot 76 in the five-play, four-score format.
The tournament concludes today.
