Miracle League benefit tonight

In conjunction with E-Matt Athletics, Athletic Edge will host NFL Miracles Over the Edge at 6 tonight at the Miracle Field in Rocky Face.

E-Matt Athletics is owned by former NFL player Eric Matthews, who played with the Green Bay Packers during their back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 1996 and 1997. Athletic Edge is a sports training facility in Tunnel Hill and is owned by Ricky and Dawn Johnson.

Local firefighters, members of the Crossfire Softball select team and former NFL players including Matthews will take part in a baseball game with Miracle League players. The game will benefit the league, which gives mentally and physically disabled children and adults the chance to play baseball.

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Concessions and inflatables will be available at the game.

The game kicks off several days of activity in conjunction with a youth football camp put on by Matthews at Northwest Whitfield High School. Tonight’s game will be followed by an 8:30 p.m. meet-and-greet session with the former NFL players at Chili’s in Dalton.

On Thursday, another meet-and-greet at 4:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cafe in downtown Dalton will be followed by a 6:30 p.m. “Pros vs. Joes” basketball game at New Hope Middle School that will include the former NFL players.

On Friday, there will be a night of activity at Retro Bowl in Dalton. With a donation to the local Boys & Girls Clubs, fans can go one on one versus any of the former NFL players in attendance in either bowling or pool.

The football camp for ages 8-17 runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Northwest. A one-hour camp for ages 5-7 will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday. The main camp is $235, while the one-hour camp is $25.

At the conclusion of Saturday’s camp session, there will be a barbecue lunch to benefit Northwest’s athletic program.
