Area middle school roundup: Lions baseball team wins conference crown

— Christian Heritage’s middle school baseball team shut down the 2013 season on an upswing. The Lions topped Chattanooga’s Silverdale Baptist Academy 7-0 this past Thursday in the Independent School Conference championship game at Christian Heritage.

Darryn Pasqua held the Lions’ visitors to three hits in a 10-strikeout, complete-game performance, while Tanner Gallman paced the team’s offensive attack with a three-hit showing.

Patterson Beene, Lucas Grant, Chase Herndon, Colton McCurdy, Alex Semratedu and Avry Thomason all chipped in RBIs for Christian Heritage, which finished the season with a 14-3 record.


Christian Heritage 7, Grace Academy 0: Backed by solid defense against their visitors from Chattanooga, Hannah Heath pitched her way to a complete-game victory as the Lady Lions (13-0) won their Independent School Conference tournament semifinal Monday at Heritage Point Park in Dalton.

Heath also had a pair of hits for the Lady Lions, as did teammate Kayleigh Fitzgerald.

Christian Heritage faces Tennessee’s Lookout Valley in the ISC championship game at 5 p.m. today at Heritage Point Park in Dalton.


• Dalton’s boys and girls both claimed top-five team finishes at the Sutton Invitational this past Saturday at the Bobby Jones Golf Club in Atlanta.

The 18-hole tournament had a field of 115 from 24 teams, and the Lady Cougars were fourth, while the Cougars were fifth. Awards were given to the top three teams and Dalton’s girls missed third place by one stroke.

For the Cougars, Jackson Quarles led the way with a 69 and tied for third place individually after regulation play. He lost a sudden death playoff on the fifth hole.

For the Lady Cougars, Katelyn Skiffen had the low round with an 81, taking fourth place individually.

While complete official scores were not available, Matthew Cleary, Davis Kirk, Addison Lambert, Miller Lovingood, Carter Pendley and Davis Smith also competed for the Cougars. Other participants for the Lady Cougars were Katy Buckner and McCall Maret.

Area middle school results are published on Mondays and Thursdays in The Daily Citizen. Coaches should send information to, with the final score, outstanding performers, team’s win-loss record and date and location of the competition included in the report.
