Soccer state championship: Live updates

9:10 p.m. — The Catamounts are state champions. Final score: Dalton 5, Southeast 0. Check back later for more on the match and read Saturday's edition of The Daily Citizen for a full report.

8:50 p.m. — A little more than 17 minutes to play, and senior striker Ramiro Huitanda puts the Cats up 5-0 with his 51st goal this season.

8:26 p.m. — Second half is under way.

8:13 p.m. — Dalton leads 4-0 at halftime. Southeast has no shots on goal, while Dalton has taken 12. The Raiders gave up a goal early, which was obviously one of the worst things that could happen to an underdog facing an undefeated opponent. Southeast will need to make something happen quickly in the second half 

7:57 p.m. — Dalton leads 4-0, with the latest goal a shot from Daniel Palacios. He was set up by a corner kick from Eder Mora. Southeast has yet to take a shot on goal with the match closing in on halftime.

7:51 p.m. — It's now 3-0 Dalton. Daniel Palacios scores seconds after an attack came up empty. The Catamounts have done a good job pursuing second shots quickly this season and have cleaned up many goals successfully as a result.

7:40 p.m. — Dalton strikes again, this time on a goal from center midfielder Eder Mora, who was set up by Ryan Czyz's corner kick. Barragan sent the ball further out into the field of play, though, rather than setting up a cross in front of the net as might have been expected.

7:32 p.m. — That did not take long. Dalton's Salvador Rodriguez sends a rainbow of a shot in from 40 yards out over Southeast goalkeeper Abel Mendiola's head for a 1-0 lead.

7:30 p.m. — Match is under way. Although Southeast has been on the road the entire state tournament, the Raiders are the home team for this match. Seeing as they're playing in Carrollton, you can take that for what it's worth.

7:10 p.m. — Dalton and Southeast are both on the field warming up now for their 7:30 kickoff. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season, and the Catamounts have outscored the Raiders 8-1 in sweeping a pair of regular-season matches and the Region 7-4A tournament semifinal.

    Dalton’s Mitchell Boggs has signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants, according to baseballamerica.com. Contract information, along with which minor league affiliate Boggs, a pitcher, will start with, was not available in the report, and Boggs was not listed on any of the online rosters for any of the Giants’ minor league affiliates.
