The Chatsworth golfing duo of Chase Jones and Tyler Mitchell combined to shoot a 6-under-par 66 in the first round of the Georgia State Golf Association’s 43rd annual Four-Ball Championship and are tied for fifth, four strokes behind a pair of teams at 10-under.

Jones and Mitchell, who played together this past season at Dalton State College where Mitchell was a senior and Jones a sophomore, opened on the back nine in the first round and shot a 4-under 32 with birdies on the par-5 11th and the par-4 15th, along with an eagle 3 on the par-5 18th. Coming in, the pair shot a 34, birdying the par-4 fourth and the par-5 sixth.

Jones and Mitchell are a stroke ahead of Dalton’s David Noll Jr. and his playing partner Cameron Hooper of Atlanta. They were tied with three other teams in eighth at 5-under.

The Rocky Face pair of Greg Brock and Matt Oxford are tied for 44th at 73.

The second round will be played today with the field of 67 teams cut to the low 40 teams and ties advancing to Sunday’s third and final round.
