Former Heritage-Catoosa High School standout Rachel Rebne signed with Dalton State College’s women’s golf team this past week at Council Fire Golf Course in Chattanooga.
Dalton State’s men’s golf team began competition this past school year, and the women’s team will begin competition in 2014-15. After competing without a conference home during 2013-14, Dalton State will be part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ Southern States Athletic Conference.
“We are extremely excited to have Rachel join our program,” Roadrunners coach Jim McGrew said in a release from Dalton State. “She is an outstanding student and a person of great character that will be a great influence on our team.”
In addition to golf, Rebne played soccer and ran cross country at Heritage before graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in 2013. As a senior, she was the medalist at the Region 7-4A and Class 4A sectional golf tournaments. She tied for third at the Class 4A state tournament.
Rebne, the daughter of Ammi and Richard Rebne, attended Berry College this school year and competed for the Vikings, an NCAA Division III program. She tied for 11th individually at last month’s Southern Athletic Association tournament, where Berry was third in the five-team field.
“She had an outstanding high school career and a good first year (at Berry College in Rome), ending with an excellent conference tournament,” McGrew said. “Rachel is another big piece of the puzzle in putting together a program that will compete for conference and national championships.”
