Roadrunners in top half of tourney field

Dalton State College’s men’s golf team shaved eight strokes off of its first-round score to finish the opening day of the Skyhawk Classic in sixth place after two rounds in the 54-hole tournament at Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan, Tenn.

The Roadrunners opened with a 293, but came back in the after-noon with a 285 as all four counting scores were 1-over-par or better. Dalton State is 22 strokes behind tournament leader Lee University in the 16-team event, which concludes today.

Levi Nix shot a 3-under-par 69 in the second round and was 1 under for the tournament, tied for 16th individually and seven strokes behind Lee’s Hunter Vest and Union University’s Bryce Doughty, who were tied at 8 under.

In the five-play, four score format, other scorers for Dalton State were Tyler Mitchell (71-73—144), Chase Jones (73-72—145), Anthony D’Angelo (75-71—146) and Thomas Rimel (75-75—150).
