Lewis leads way for North Ga. Hayastan

Two competitors representing North Georgia Hayastan, a Dalton mixed martial arts gym, placed in the Europa Games Get Fit & Sports Expo grappling tournament this past weekend in Dallas.

David Lewis earned a gold medal in the 145-155 pound division, which he was competing in for just the second time. He won four matches in a row — two by submission and two by points. In the absolute division — which includes all skill levels — he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Eric Rojo also won four matches in a row in the 160-169 division but lost in the semifinals and finished third.

Leonardo Lechuga competed in the advanced senior division but did not place.

The grappling tournament was sponsored by Torque Sports and Performance, which also sponsors North Georgia Hayastan and invited the gym’s competitors to the event. The expo also included bodybuilding, wrestling, taekwondo, arm wrestling and obstacle course tournaments.
