Dalton boys win state swim title

Dale claims four titles in final high school meet

ATLANTA — Dalton High School’s boys swimming team won the Georgia High School Association Class A-5A State Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday at Georgia Tech.

All 192 of the Catamounts’ team points were scored by Taylor Dale, Ethan Young, Pierson Scarborough and Taylor Mathis. As a group, they won the 200-yard medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, the latter clinching the team championship.

Dale, who will swim at Georgia next year, won individual state titles in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, two events he won a year ago. Young finished second in each event, helping Dalton’s team total. Scarborough earned points in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle. Mathis earned points in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly.

Westminster finished second with 173 points, followed by Oconee County (154), North Hall (144) and St. Pius X (135).

It is the first team state championship for the program since 1993.
