DSC women's golf adds Gordon Lee's McDonald to roster

When Dalton State College’s women’s golf program begins competition later this year, the Roadrunners will have one of the state’s top high school golfers of 2014 on their roster.

Ashley McDonald, a recent graduate of Gordon Lee High School in nearby Chickamauga, signed with Dalton State this week after visiting the school and local golf facilities.

In her senior season of Georgia High School Association competition this spring, McDonald finished runner-up in the Area 4-A public school tournament with an 89 and shaved 10 strokes off that score to earn medalist honors at the Class A public school sectional tournament. She finished sixth in the Class A public school state tournament.

In a release from Dalton State, women’s golf coach Jim McGrew noted McDonald as a plus in the classroom as well as on the golf course.

“We are really excited to have Ashley join our program,” he said. “We feel like she has tremendous potential and her 4.0 GPA for all four years of high school shows that she will fit in well in terms of what we are looking for in a student-athlete.”

According to the release, Dalton State’s nursing program and the chance to attend college close to home were key factors in her decision to join the Roadrunners.
