A Look Ahead: Summer of fun camps concluding
The last wave of summer camps are crashing against the shore this week and the next, with numerous schools and organizations hosting sports-related camps and one local high school planning a volleyball match for its alumni.
If you’re a kid who’s been spending the summer inside, playing video games and eating junk food — like I did when I was younger — then you may need to take the final two weeks of summer to get back in football mode for the upcoming fall season.
A Look Ahead: Matthews’ camp brings a week full of activities
Perhaps you’re a young football player interested in getting an offseason jump on the game. Or you might be a “Joe” basketball player. Maybe you just want an autograph.
A Look Ahead: Tourney continues to thrive
After months of preparation, more than three dozens stories written on the participating teams and summer workouts by those players, the Southeastern 7-on-7 Championship presented by AstroTurf returns to Dalton for the third installment of the tournament organized by The Daily Citizen.
A Look Ahead: Dolphins battle up current
The Dalton Dolphins know how many points they need to win by, and the regular season title will come down to three dozen. More than 36, and the tiebreaker is theirs, along with the straight shot to a third consecutive regular season title
The summer league swim team faces its top rival, Signal Mountain, today at 5:30 p.m. at the Dalton Parks and Recreation Department’s John Davis Recreation Center for a chance to avenge an earlier loss in this year’s Chattanooga Area Swim League Season.
A Look Ahead: Showcase event hits diamond
You could be a graduating senior yet to find a home. Or you could be an upcoming senior looking to get a head start on impressing college baseball coaches and scouts.
Maybe you’re even younger and just want to get your name out there.
A Look Ahead: Diamond is last chance for Georgia
So far this summer, it has been a bitter pill to swallow for the Georgia All-Stars in the annual Stump on Sports Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Classics.
The players from the Volunteer state have won four out of five contests in the games, which will conclude this week with baseball on Tuesday and softball on Wednesday.
The results have been even more surprising after Saturday’s Tennessee sweep of both the boys and girls soccer games.
A Look Ahead: School’s out with lots to do
The 8-year-old version of me started counting down the days to summer vacation once April Fools’ Day showed its shadow.
Swimming pools, summer camps, video games, Little League baseball games, longer days and anything else that drives a parent insane.

A Look Ahead: The dominant sport
This couldn’t happen in any other sport. But in this area, soccer is becoming THE sport.
For the past week and a half, three high school teams in Whitfield County have steamrolled through competition, save one close win for each. Dalton, Northwest Whitfield and Southeast Whitfield each has won three games since May 3 and now are in the Class 3A state tournament semifinals.
A Look Ahead: Postseason shifts up to higher gear
One year later, and the names remain the same for the area’s four teams still alive on the pitch in the state playoffs.
Last season’s high school boys soccer state tournaments saw a quartet of local teams making a run through the first round. This season, those four are singing the same song and dancing the same dance.
