Last weekend to vote for your favorite cats

Submitted by the Department of Agriculture

The Georgia Department of Agriculture invites you to help choose the state’s new Feline Friend license plate. The last full day for voting is Monday, September 8. Log onto www.fixgeorgiacats.org and vote for your favorites. The design with the highest rating will become the new license plate. The six designs shown on the Web site are the finalists selected from almost 200 entries of artwork submitted.

Please keep in mind the following tips when voting:

• Only one vote per computer will be tallied

• You may choose to rate each design; or you may vote for just one

• Cast your vote online at www.fixgeorgiacats.org

• You may also cast your vote via mail, postmarked by Sept. 8: Cat License Plate Art Contest, c/o Georgia Department of Agriculture, 19 Martin Luther King Jr. SW, Room 106, Atlanta, GA 30334

“I encourage all Georgians to vote for their favorite cats. I did!” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin.

The new Feline Friend License Plate will be sold in addition to the current dog and cat license plates beginning in December 2008. The dog and cat license plates are the primary funding source for the Dog and Cat Sterilization Program (DCSP). The program provides subsidies for spay/neuter procedures performed by licensed and accredited veterinarians in all Georgia counties. More than 35,000 spay/neuter procedures have been performed since 2003 through the DCSP. More than $22 from each license plate sold directly benefits the program which saves taxpayers money by curbing dog and cat overpopulation.
