Recalled hot chocolate mix may contain tree nuts

Submitted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin alerts consumers to the recall of a hot chocolate mix that has tree nuts as an ingredient but is not listed on the label.

Pelican Bay Ltd of Dunedin, Fla., is recalling all of its Caramel Chocolate Truffle Hot Chocolate Mix distributed from January 2007 through November 2, 2009. The mix was sold through direct delivery, mail order and retail stores and shipped to Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, and the Netherlands.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to tree nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to the company at this time.

Those who have purchased the mix are urged to call 1-800-826-8982, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST for information on returns and replacement.

“Our Consumer Protection inspectors will be checking grocery stores and warehouses to make sure the recalled mix is removed from sale,” said Commissioner Irvin.
