Catoosa County teacher arrested on drug charges

Mark Andrews, Catoosa County News

A Catoosa County teacher and her husband have been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Sheriff Phil Summers said Sharon Roszell, 27, turned herself in Friday after warrants for her arrest were issued that stem from a search for drugs at her home.

Roszell was not present at the time of the search, but four pounds of marijuana were found at the residence, Summers said. Her husband was also taken into custody, he said.

Both face charges involving prescription pain killers, the sheriff said.

The Catoosa school system on Tuesday issued a written statement: “A Catoosa County school teacher has been placed on administrative leave due to charges filed by the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department. Since the incident did not occur on school property or during school hours, the school system is waiting for additional information from the Sheriff’s Department to conduct a full investigation. The teacher will not be in any Catoosa County School until the investigation is concluded and appropriate action is determined.”

According to school officials, Roszell taught in the computer lab at Tiger Creek Elementary in Ringgold. She has been employed by the school system since Aug. 1, 2006. She was placed on administrative leave on Nov. 19.

Roszell’s home search was part of a countywide roundup by the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force.
