Kingston to report $3.4M in cash for Senate bid

ATLANTA — Republican Rep. Jack Kingston will report another strong fundraising quarter in his bid for Georgia’s open U.S. Senate seat, with more than $880,000 contributions received in the last three months of 2013.

Kingston said in a statement Thursday that he was grateful for the support, noting his campaign was entering the 2014 election year on a strong footing with $3.4 million in cash on hand.

Kingston is among a crowded field of Republicans vying for the seat held by Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss, who’s retiring. The candidates include Reps. Paul Broun of Athens and Phil Gingrey of Marietta, along with former Secretary of State Karen Handel and ex-Dollar General CEO David Perdue.

Democrat Michelle Nunn’s campaign has said she will report raising more than $1.6 million for the last quarter.
