Police have identified a body found in an alley in Waynesboro as that of a 53-year-old woman.
Mary Lee Crumbley was found dead after Waynesboro police officers were dispatched to the alley around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Waynesboro police Lt. Theodore Jackson says the woman’s cause of death hasn’t been determined.
The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/15w5Jgj) that Waynesboro police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Burke County Coroner’s Office are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Crumbley is the sister of a woman who was shot and killed in April, but county Coroner Susan Salemi says the shooting is not believed to be connected to the death discovered Saturday.
Salemi said Mary Lee Crumbley is the sister of Linda Crumbley, who was shot and killed in her home on Biltmore Place off Meadowbrook Drive in April. Linda Crumbley’s two adult children were wounded in the shooting. A 52-year-old Blythe man is facing murder and assault charges in the April shooting.
