Crews are searching for the body of a 45-year-old Atlanta man who is believed to have drowned in the Amicalola Creek near the north Georgia town of Dawsonville.
Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials say the man was with a group of friends and relatives Sunday afternoon at Devil’s Elbow, a popular swimming spot. Around 4 p.m., he swung on a rope swing into the large, swift pool. Authorities say that as he swam back to the bank, he went under the water and never resurfaced.
The Times of Gainesville reports that searchers from the DNR and Dawson County Sheriff’s Office have been searching for the man’s body. His name hasn’t been released.
