A 35-year-old Decatur man shot by a Georgia state trooper after a traffic stop in metro Atlanta was recovering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.
Authorities say Terico Powell was shot around 11:30 a.m. Thursday on Fulton Industrial Boulevard. The trooper was not hurt.
The Georgia State Patrol said the trooper saw Powell being chased by another man near Fulton Industrial and ordered both men to stop. Authorities say the trooper allegedly also told Powell to drop an object from his hand, but Powell refused.
Patrol officials say the trooper fired his weapon after Powell turned abruptly toward him and pointed an object at him which the trooper thought was a weapon.
