Commissioner warns about kerosene sold at Martinez store

Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black is warning consumers who purchased kerosene on or after March 31 from Sprint Foods 720 at 424 South Bellair Road in Martinez not to use the product in their kerosene heaters or lamps.

The kerosene is possibly contaminated with gasoline and has the potential to cause an explosion or fire if used in home heaters or lamps.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Fuel & Measures Division has placed a stop sell order on the kerosene pump at the store. The pump will remain closed until the tank and lines have been cleaned and a new shipment has been tested and approved by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. To date, no other stations are involved.

Consumers who purchased kerosene from Sprint Foods store on or after March 31 may contact the store at (706) 863-5883 or the Fuel and Measures Division at (404) 656-3605 for more information.
