Savannah shootings leave 2 killed, 3 others hurt

SAVANNAH — Authorities say at least five people were hit in a spree of shootings in Savannah, including two people who were killed by the gunfire.

Savannah-Chatham Metro police say officers responded to three separate shootings in the downtown area Tuesday night.

WTOC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1cnGrb5) that two of the five people shot died at local hospitals.

The violence began around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a report of shots fired near Oglethorpe Avenue and East Broad Street.

While officers were responding to the first scene, a second call went out to another shooting at 39th and Cedar streets. Police say three people were injured by gunfire there and cars and windows were found shot out.

Minutes later, a third shooting was reported.

Authorities say all three shootings occurred within about 30 minutes.
