EAST POINT —
Authorities say they’ve arrested a woman in the death of a suburban Atlanta police officer who was shot in her head.
U.S. Marshals spokesman James Joyner said the Marshals and Fulton County Police arrested Danielle Parker Tuesday in the death of 32-year-old Crystal Parker.
The two had been roommates, authorities said. Additional information on their relationship and a motive that led to the shooting was not immediately available.
Crystal Parker, a six-year veteran of the East Point Police Department, was found dead inside her house south of Atlanta on Sunday night. Authorities have said Parker’s home had also been burglarized in mid-June.
It was not immediately clear if Danielle Parker had an attorney.
Crystal Parker’s father, Joseph, told WXIA-TV (http://on.11alive.com/12XijUi) he wanted his daughter’s killer brought to justice.
“It’s not in my hands. Anger is gone. I’m hurt, you can’t just kill a person like that,” he told the television station, adding that he has not yet been able to plan his daughter’s funeral.
East Point Police Lt. Cliff Chandler told the television station he held the slain officer in high regard. Crystal Parker was named the department’s officer of the year in 2012.
“She was one of our trusted people, one of our good officers and a very good friend,” he told the television station. Chandler said he supervised Parker on the night shift and she typically worked bike patrol.
Chandler told the television station Parker shined when she was able to train other officers in the field.
“She knew the law, she knew how to protect herself and she was able to transfer those traits to the officers that were in her car with her,” Chandler said. “She was a very, very good officer. I trusted her with assignments. She could step in when we needed her,” he said.
