Ex-DeKalb school board member runs for state post

Associated Press

DUNWOODY — A former DeKalb County school board member has announced plans to run for state schools superintendent.

Nancy Jester announced her candidacy Monday at a gathering at a park in Dunwoody, just outside of Atlanta.

Jester and five other school board members were suspended by Gov. Nathan Deal after an accreditation agency put the district on probation. He eventually decided to remove the six board members from their positions.

Jester says she brought concerns about the board’s finances and management to the agency that placed the district on probation.

WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/1bwCoHu ) reports Jester is the fourth Republican to announce their candidacy to replace John Barge, who is running for governor.

Former teacher Richard Woods, businessman Fritz Johnson and Bartow County School Board member, Matt Schultz, have already announced their candidacy.
