News cameras were rolling as a driver who was slumped over in a truck woke up, sped away and caused a chain-reaction crash on a metro Atlanta highway.
A WSB-TV reporter called 911 Saturday afternoon when she and one of the station’s photographers saw the truck idling in the right lane of the Buford Connector.
A Georgia Department of Transportation HERO unit worker woke the man up and tried having him remove the keys from the ignition. Instead, the man sped away and caused a five-car accident.
The driver got out of the truck and ran away before police arrived. He ran up an embankment, climbed a tree and vaulted over a fence to escape the scene.
No serious injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.
