Jimmy Carter’s grandson eyes state senate seat

ATLANTA (AP) — Jason Carter is following in his grandfather, President Jimmy Carter’s famous footsteps and entering politics with a state Senate run.

The Atlanta lawyer and Democrat says he will run for a seat representing part of DeKalb County. The District 42 post is currently held by David Adelman, who has been nominated by President Barack Obama to be ambassador to Singapore.

If Adelman is confirmed in January, a special election will be held March 16.

Carter — a former Peace Corps volunteer and a graduate of Duke University and the University of Georgia School of Law — works for the Atlanta law firm Bondurant, Mixon and Elmore, focusing on voting rights. He is also the founder of the Red Clay Democrats, an organization for young professionals and the community service group Democrats Work.
