Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard has filed a motion asking for lawyers representing Atlanta Public Schools officials to be barred from speaking to the media.
Arraignments for 35 Atlanta Public Schools officials who were indicted in a racketeering conspiracy are set for Friday. Former educators are also charged with making false statements and writings, influencing witnesses and theft by taking.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/11Y1dHo ) Howard filed the motion April 25. The newspaper and its broadcast partner WSB-TV have filed a motion looking to strike down an existing gag order barring the defendants from speaking to the news media or to the public about the case.
The order was drafted as part of the defendants’ bond conditions, and the judge presiding over the case will consider that motion Friday.
