Miss Jennifer Ann Shields of Cumming, Ga., and Joshua Lee Cole also of Cumming were united in marriage June 13, 2009, at the Birmingham United Church in Alpharetta. The 4 o’clock ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Doctor Dave Benson, pastor of the church.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shields of Duluth, Ga. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Brown of Lake Weiss, Ala., and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Cole of Dalton.
The sanctuary of the church was decorated with large floral arrangements featuring an assortment of roses, freesia, tulips, stock and hypericum in a mixture of colors. The kneeling bench and the pew markers were adorned with white satin bows and stems of lisianthus. A unity candle enhanced the altar setting.
Ms. Beth Vassallo, pianist, provided a program of nuptial music throughout the ceremony. Miss Elizabeth Kirk of Dalton, cousin of the groom, gave a scripture reading from Corinthians 13. The traditional Irish Wedding Blessing was given by Tim Shields, brother of the bride.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father. She was attired in a strapless A-line gown with a corseted back designed by Maggie Sottero. Layers of shimmering organza cascaded toward the hem in three tiers. Delicate floral embroidery framed the gown with embellishments of Swarovski crystals, pearls and glass beads. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of roses, freesia, lisianthus, tulips, stock and hypericum.
Miss Lisa Perron of Atlanta, friend of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Ms. Linda Pierce of Suwanee, Ga., friend of the bride; Mrs. Donna Cole of Dalton, sister-in-law of the groom; and Miss Cali Cole, also of Dalton, sister of the groom. The bridal attendants wore afternoon length dresses of bridal satin in the shade of rose quartz. Each dress was designed to accent the personality of the attendant. Each carried a hand-tied bouquet of flowers identical to that of the bride.
Program attendants were Miss Cathryn Farmer of Cartersville and Miss Kayley Fraker of Hiram, cousins of the groom.
Jeffery Lawrence Cole performed the duties of best man for his brother. Groomsmen were Marc Colluro of Braselton, friend of the groom; Blake Swanson of Alpharetta, friend of the groom; Caz Cole of Dalton, brother of the groom; Timothy Shields and Kevin Shields, both of Duluth, brothers of the bride. Honorary groomsmen were Zachary Cole, Chase Cole and Brett Cole, all of Dalton, nephews of the groom.
Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shields, hosted a dinner dance reception in honor of the couple at the Alpharetta Athletic Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Brown, parents of the groom, honored the bridal couple with a dinner on the eve of the wedding for members of the wedding party, family and out-of-town guests at The Diner at North Pointe. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Farmer of Cartersville, Mr. and Mrs. Chip Kirk of Dalton, and Mr. and Mrs. Tut Britton also of Dalton.
The bride hosted a luncheon on Friday, June 12, for her attendants and family members at Relish in Roswell. Those attending were Miss Lisa Perron, Ms. Linda Pierce, Mrs. Donna Cole, Miss Cali Cole, Mrs. Marion Shields, Mrs. Karen Brown, Mrs. Chris Cole, Mrs. Virginia Sheppard, Miss Sandy Brown and Mrs. Carolyn Cleveland.
Following a trip to the Mayan Riviera, the couple resides in Cumming.
