Bagley Middle sweeps Valley Point for milestone win

Bagley Middle School’s basketball teams went perfect in four games Thursday against Valley Point, and long-time coach Bob Campbell earned his 350th win.

Bagley’s eighth-grade boys won 28-26 against Valley Point behind Waylyn James’ game-high 22 points. The Braves improve to 7-1 overall and the victory was the milestone for Campbell, who has been the coach at Bagley for 25 years. In the seventh-grade boys game, Bagley (3-5) held on for a 21-18 win. Kenneth Hamlin led the Braves with 10 points.

In the seventh-grade girls game, Bagley won 33-11 and improved to 6-2 this year. Sarah Plemons led the Lady Braves with 12 points, and Grace Garland chipped in with 11 points. In the eighth-grade girls matchup, Badley (6-2) dominated to a 45-2 victory. Shelby Satterfield led with 12 points, and Tisha Sexton added 11.

Westside eighth-grade boys 46, New Hope 19: Greer Threadgill scored 14 points, and Luke Shiflett added 12 for the winners, who improved to 10-2 overall and 8-0 in league play.

New Hope seventh-grade girls 30, Westside 24: Alaina Thompson scored 10 points, Sydney Horne added nine and Olivia Jones helped with six for New Hope, which improved to 5-3 this year.

New Hope eighth-grade girls 33, Westside 20: Holly Heath led with 17 points and Hallie Brooker added six for New Hope, which remains undefeated through nine games.

McCallie seventh-grade boys 39, Dalton 28: Wesley Caceres scored 12 points, but Dalton fell short.

McCallie eighth-grade boys 47, Dalton 18: Zach Gentry scored seven points, but Dalton couldn’t keep up.

Swimming

• Dalton Middle and New Hope held a meet with Cleveland Middle and Chattanooga Arts and Sciences.

Dalton’s 200-yard medley relay team of Cade Gabriel, Jonathan Shaheen, Raul Valdez and Ross Valdes won in 1 minutes, 57.97 seconds. Anthony Calderon, Ethan Carroll, Ross Davis and Nicolas Lama won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.83. Carroll Gabriel, Raul Valdez and Ross Valdez won the 400 freestyle relay in 4:45.78. Other winners for Dalton were: Calderon (100 breaststroke, 1:19.09); Gabriel (50 freestyle, 24.68; 100 freestyle, 58.79); Shaheen (200 freestyle, 2:09.53; 500 freestyle, 5:29.17); and Ross Valdez (100 butterfly, 1:04.21).

New Hope’s lone winner was Alex Mashburn (200 individual medley, 2:16.05).
