DSC tennis has first day of play affected by rain

Dalton State College has celebrated a lot of firsts for its rebooted athletics programs.

The school’s tennis teams will have to wait a little longer for the same memorable moment.

Sunday’s inclement weather postponed the scheduled men’s match against the University of North Georgia, an NCAA Division II program. The matches were scheduled to take place at Lakeshore Park in Dalton, where the Roadrunners will host home matches.

The Dalton State women will open their season at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the new debut date for Dalton State’s men’s team. Georgia Gwinnett, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics program like Dalton State, open the year with the men ranked No. 5 in the NAIA and the women ranked No. 25.

Dalton State’s first home match will be Friday as the men face Gadsden State Community College, from Alabama. The following day, the women host Sneed State Community College from Boaz, Ala.
