Two NW soccer players in All-star girls match

Two former Northwest Whitfield High School athletes will try to help Georgia put together a soccer sweep in the Stump on Sports All-Star Classic against Tennessee.

The annual match featuring recent seniors from northwestern Georgia against the same from southeastern Tennessee is scheduled for 4 p.m. today at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga. Georgia’s boys beat Tennessee 2-1 in their match last week.

Northwest’s Ashlee Huynh and Maria Zumeta are on the roster for the Peach State, which will be coached by Heritage-Catoosa head coach Stacy Dunfee. Huynh and Zumeta were the only players from Murray or Whitfield counties listed on the roster.

Tennessee, which will be coached by Notre Dame’s Jim Schermerhorn, has a 7-1 lead in the series.
