High school sports events called off

Most high school sports events scheduled for today involving teams in Murray and Whitfield counties have been called off due to the wintry weather conditions.

All public schools in Murray and Whitfield counties have ended school for the day and those schools’ athletic games are postponed. Attempts to contact coaches and officials at Christian Heritage were unsuccessful.

Murray County’s basketball games at Coosa have been rescheduled for Saturday, with the junior varsity boys playing at 1:30 p.m., the varsity girls at 3 p.m. and the varsity boys at 4:30 p.m.

The boys and girls swimming and diving meet at Dalton High School between the host Catamounts and Lady Cats, Northwest Whitfield and Chattanooga’s Notre Dame has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Other basketball games scheduled for today were: Christian Heritage at Gordon Lee; Cartersville at Coahulla Creek; North Murray at Sonoraville; Dalton at Northwest; Morris Innovative at Chattooga; and Southeast Whitfield at Heritage-Catoosa.

Murray County wrestling also was scheduled to compete in duals at Ringgold against the host Tigers and LaFayette. With the Area 3-2A traditional tournament coming up this weekend, there are no plans to reschedule the event.

Other makeup dates and times will be reported as The Daily Citizen learns of them. Coaches and athletic directors with information on makeup contests should call (706) 272-7734 as soon as possible.
