Middle school roundup: North Whitfield wins behind no-hit pitcher

Eli Turso pitched a no hitter and helped North Whitfield Middle School’s baseball team win 1-0 Thursday against Bagley.

Turso struck out 11 batters in the complete-game effort at Edwards Park.

Eli Chumley reached base in the bottom of the third inning with a hit and scored the game’s lone run. Will Douglas had two hits, one a double.

Dalton 3, Cleveland (Tenn.) 0: Three pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout for the Cougars (3-0) as Zach Lance earned the win.

Cade Gabriel was 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles for Dalton. Harrison Hughes finished 3-for-4.

Dalton 12, Ringgold 2: J.P. Tighe was the winning pitcher in Saturday’s game, allowing one run on one hit through 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four.

At the plate, Tighe finished 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Clay Britton finished 2

Track and field

• Dalton competed in its first track meet of the season Saturday at the Marietta Middle School Invitational. The combined team scores had Daltn in third out of 11 teams, with the girls placing third and the boys finishing seventh.

For the girls, Olivia Ross finished first in the triple jump and third in the 1,600-meter race. Other placers were: La’Sonia Dansby (long jump, second); Naomie Arango (100 hurdles, second); the 400 relay of Arango, Essence Henson, La’Ryan Nance and Leah Shelton (second); Precious Simms (long jump, third); Henson (100, second; long jump, third); Nance (100 hurdles, third); and Shelton (300 hurdles, third).

For the boys, Amir El-Ameen finished second in the shot put. The other placers were: Ivan Calderon (discus, second; shot put, third); Adan Rodriguez (1,600, third); and Daniel Wright (800, third).
